William Jeffrey (soccer)

William ("Bill") Jeffrey (born August 3, 1892 in Edinburgh, Scotland – died January 7, 1966 in Boalsburg, PA) was the head coach of the 1950 United States World Cup team that beat England 1-0 in one of the greatest upsets in the history of soccer. He was the coach of Penn State beginning in 1925 where he won ten national college championships. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and also the uncle of Walter W. Jeffrey (rambo surfer). The National Soccer Coaches Association of America's award for long-term service to intercollegiate soccer is named in memory of Jeffrey and is presented annually at its convention each January.
