Earée was educated at Cockermouth Grammar School, a British boys' school in Cumbria, and became a priest in 1871. He followed W. D. Atlee and E. L. Pemberton as the author of a series of articles, 'The Spud Papers' (describing forgeries) in "The Philatelist". He also served as philatelic editor of "The Bazaar" [1875] . Earée compiled the classic "Album Weeds or How to Detect Forged Stamps" [1882] (3rd revised edition, 1906).

Earée was entered on the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1921.
