Background
Islamia Primary School is best known for its founder and chairman of governors, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), well known as the pop singer during the 1960s and 1970s, before converting to Islam and retiring from the music business. He used his resources to establish the school after the birth of his first child and worked tirelessly for the school and the cause of Islamic Education.
Islamia School was one of the first Muslim schools, as well as the first to get recognition from the
UK government. The School opened in October 1983. At first, just a Nursery, it quickly grew into aninfant and then ajunior school .By 1990, the school was well known for its excellent results and was hugely popular and, as a result, needed to expand. Also there was now a growing demand for a Secondary School. Islamia Schools Trust was able to bid for the Kilburn & Brondesbury Secondary School premises. This had been an old, and rather exclusive
grammar school . It had also served as asynagogue for a time, during the construction of a purpose-built synagogue nearby, (which is now part ofAl-Sadiq Islamic School ). Finally in 1998, fifteen years after the school was founded, the government granted it State funding.Linked Schools
The Islamia Branch divides into three; the primary school itself, the Girls School, and the Boys school (best known as
Brondesbury College )Notable Visits
