ntupdate =Paul Underwood (born
August 16 1973 in Wimbledon, SouthLondon ) is a professional footballer, who is currently unattached. He previously played for Luton Town in theFootball League Two .Paul began his career with
Carshalton Athletic , and after spells atSutton United ,Dorking F.C. andMolesey F.C. , he moved toEnfield F.C. . After a year at Enfield F.C. he joinedRushden & Diamonds for £50,000 in the summer of 1997. During his time at Rushden & Diamonds he represented England as a semi-professional international. He made over 200 appearances during his time at Nene Park, and during this time they won theFootball Conference and theFootball League Two title, as well as losing a play-off final toCheltenham Town at theMillennium Stadium in Cardiff.He was signed by Luton in March 2003 and was injured just 19 minutes into his debut in a 1-1 draw at
Queens Park Rangers just two days after joining the club. The injury forced him to miss the remainder of the 2003-04 season.Paul had a superb season during the 2004-05 campaign as the Hatters won the
Football League One Championship.Unfortunately for Paul, he suffered massively during the 2006-07 season in
The Championship , and had to watch agonisingly from the sidelines as Luton Town were relegated. A routine knee operation during the pre-season period became a nightmare when it became infected and caused Paul to lose over two stone in weight. The effects forced him to miss the entire 2006-07 season and his loss was a real blow to the Hatters.Despite being injured for the entire season, Paul had shown enough during his two years at Kenilworth Road to persuade the then Hatters boss Mike Newell to give him a new two-year contract, which he duly signed, keeping him with Luton Town until the summer of 2009.
Paul, as yet, has not made a full recovery from his illness and has now spent two years without making a first team apearance for Luton.
He is back in light training and expected to be back in contention by November 2008. On October 1st 2008 Paul decided to leave Luton Town owing to injury.
