Odda of Devon was the ealdorman of Devon in England in the 9th century, during the reign of Alfred the Great.
He was the leader of a Saxon force which defeated a Viking raid in the Battle of Cynuit, England, in 878.
Odda in fiction
He is a significant character in The Marsh King, a children's historical novel by C. Walter Hodges. This novel is mainly about Alfred the Great, but also includes Odda's victory at Cynuit, and a meeting between Odda and Alfred at Athelney a short time earlier.
Odda the Elder and Odda the Younger both appear in The Saxon Stories series of books by Bernard Cornwell.
