Born inModesto, California ,he was notable for writing and directing theJoe McDoakes series of short films forWarner Brothers between 1942 and 1956,which featuredGeorge O'Hanlon in the title role. On TV, he directed "The Twilight Zone" episode "To Serve Man", and directed virtually every episode of the 1960s-1970sCBS television series "Green Acres ".
