Sir Thomas Picton School

Sir Thomas Picton School

The Sir Thomas Picton School is a secondary school in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

It is named after Sir Thomas Picton,(August, 1758 – June 18, 1815) a Welsh military leader who fought in a number of campaigns for Great Britain, and rose to the rank of lieutenant general. He is chiefly remembered for his exploits under the Duke of Wellington in the Iberian Peninsular War and at the Battle of Waterloo, where he was mortally wounded while his division stopped d'Erlon's corps attack against the allied centre left, and so became the most senior officer to die at Waterloo.

Sir Thomas Picton currently has 1200 students of which about 200 are in Years 12 and 13. The current year group starting in 2002 are widely regarded as the premier school year. The school is known for it's musically talented pupils such as Connie Fisher and Duffy, as well as it's drama department, which has cultivated the talents of a number of National Youth Theatre pupils. Which is quite good considering its Sir Thomas Picton School!

Notable ex-pupils include:
* Connie Fisher - star of the BBC's How do you solve a problem like Maria?
* Duffy - female soul singer-songwriter
* Georgia Coles-Riley - actress
