Tasker-Milward V.C. School

Tasker Milward is a secondary school in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, South West Wales. It was founded by Mary Tasker. It has over 1000 students (at last count it was 1174). It has three buildings, Milward Building or "Lower School", where English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, PE, ICT are taught; the library is also in the Milward Building. Humanities Block or "H Block", where Geography, History and RE are taught ("H Block" was built in 2001), and Tasker Building or "Top School". This is where languages (Welsh, French, Spanish), Biology, PSE (Personal Social Education), another ICT, Drama, another two English classes, Technology and Art are held. This is also where the Sixth Form area is, which includes a Resource Room, Work Area, and Common Room, as of September 2008 the work area is no the admins and examinations officers room.

Each year group is divided up into separate classes or "forms". They are T,A,S,K,E,R and M. This is then put into two groups TASK and ERM. The current years 7 and 8 had a distinct lack of pupils, however, and some forms have been removed and the year split is now TAS and KER.

Sixth Form forms only have T,A,S and K. With the newest Sixth formers (year 12's) there is only T,A and S.

As of September 2007, the head teacher is Mrs M Haynes.

The Sixth Form is a member of the "Haverfordwest federation" which links it with Sir Thomas Picton School and Pembrokeshire College.

The school was formed by the amalgamation in the late 1970s of two former schools: the Haverfordwest Grammar School and Tasker's School for Girls.

Sporting

Tasker Milward has a large sports dome, or "The Dome" to the pupils, which is open to the public after school hours. It has two tennis courts and a basketball court, Inside Milward building is a swimming pool. Outside there is a rugby, football and hockey pitches, a cricket pitch and four tennis courts.

As of Summer 2008 the football pitches and some of the hockey pitches, are no longer available, due to a new portfield special needs school being build on the site. (see portfield building site)

Portfeild building site

Starting in summer 2008 the former site of the football and cricket pitches as been lost to the building of the new portfield special needs school.

There were many rumours around the school as to why it was being build on school property, one was that the school was bankrupt, another was that the head teacher was paid, to give them the land.

The real reason why it was taken was the school, as most public schools, is owned by the local council, they therfore own the land and gave permission to build there.
