Civic=Arfon was one of five districts of
Gwynedd ,North Wales , from 1974 to 1996.It was created by the
Local Government Act 1972 onApril 1 ,1974 from part of theadministrative county ofCaernarvonshire , namely themunicipal borough s of Bangor and Caernarvon, the Bethesdaurban district , therural district s of Ogwen, and theGwyrfai Rural District , less the parishes ofBeddgelert andClynnog .It was abolished as a district on
April 1 ,1996 , when Gwynedd was reconstituted as a unitary authority. The area remains in use for anarea committee ofGwynedd Council .Etymology
"Arfon" means "opposite Anglesey" ('Ar' + fon' which is a mutation of 'Mon', the Welsh name for Anglesey).
