Tata 1510/1512

The Tata 1510/1512 is the largest selling bus model seen regularly in India and neighbouring countries and the Seychelles. Made by the industrial giant, Tata Motors, it combines good features and low ownership cost.

It is a 60-seat sturdily built bus with the following features:
* Front-mounted Tata-Cummins turbocharged engine driving the rear wheels with shaft.
* 5 forward + 1 reverse gears, all Synchromesh
* Power Steering
* Retarder enabled engine

Tata builds the chassis/cowl with engine and other framework. There are many contracted suppliers which in turn build the bodies over the chassis as per customer requirements.

Leading builders include: Khira Motors (A Division of Jayanand Khira & Co Pvt Ltd, the State Transport of Maharashtra (Central Workshop, Pune), Sutlej, Bharat, Standard, ARCO, etc.

This bus is used by all, from the low cost service providers like state transport, municipal metro bus services to the upmarket private transporters providing high-cost intercity/interstate services.
