DigitalLattice Orange

DigitalLattice Orange

DigitalLattice Orange is a server platform for the rapid development of AJAX & SOA based web application. It licensed and distributed by DigitalLattice Corp, a Canadian company.

The product was originally developed low-cost, light-weight alternative for to main stream application server platforms. It was designed specifically to simplify the development of AJAX and XML applications. The standard installation for the product comes with a built-in web server, but can integrate with standard web servers like Microsoft IIS.

The built-in middleware technology in Orange allows users to interact with server-side XML web services written using scripting languages like JavaScript, VBScript, Python. Web services developed on the Orange platform are automatically available via AJAX, JSON, SOAP, REST and XML-RPC.

Orange also offers an alternative CFML engine comparable to Macromedia's ColdFusion. The product offers support for a large subset of the CFML language that allows most ColdFusion MX-compatible application to run within its environment. The underlying scripting technology allows CFML scripts to communicate with COM object, Java class libraries, or server scripts written in any of the supported languages.

The server is also available as a compact (about 5 MB) self-contained library accessible through C++ or COM library. This allows the server to be embedded a host application to expose its business objects as XML web services or to expose an entire host application via a web interface.
