- Power Dive
"Power Dive" was an
amusement ride atSix Flags Great America . It was anIntamin AG Looping Starship with the body slightly modified to look like afighter jet . The ride was criticized by many for being "A Cheap Top Gun Imitation" since Paramount owned the licensing right to "Top Gun" and Six Flags did not. During the ride's early years, the song Danger Zone byKenny Loggins played over the speakers in the queue. Danger Zone was a song written originally for Top Gun."Power Dive" was built in 1987 on the spot of the former "Edge" ride. The Edge was removed the year before after being shut down for years after an accident in the early 1980s. "Power Dive" was removed in 2002 due to several maintenance issues. Its body can be seen from the top of the
Iron Wolf roller coaster. It is still in the employee parking lot, and because it has sat in all of the outdoor conditions for several years, the ride has rusted beyond repair and is now useless. In 2004 "King Chaos", a
HUSS Top Spin ride, took over in the spot of Power Dive. From "Power Dive" 's removal in 2002 until 2003, the building that housed "Power Dive" 's queue was used as a minibowling alley named "Power Alley". The park used the sign from the former ride, but replaced the "Dive" part with "Alley". During that time, some supports and the control booth from the ride remained standing until "King Chaos" was built. The only remaining parts of Power Dive as of 2007 are some footers from its supports. However, it is out of public view.
