Jew Town

Jew Town is both the name of a boy-band and the name of their self-titled single.

The band was created by Australian Jewish comedian and media personality John Safran as a response to the proliferation of Christian rock groups and to a lesser extent, the proliferation of boy bands. The band was first featured on John Safran's Music Jamboree television series, displaying the video clip to their self-titled song. Following this, the song received extensive national air-time, especially on the Australian youth radio station Triple J.

The video clip, directed by Craig Melville, is something of a parody of a typical boy band video clip, featuring synchronised dancing. Jew Town also features the "Jew Town" performers rapping tefillin in a fashion that was arguably a parody of the way some other boy band groups are shown accessorising themselves with such items as headbands.

On the episode where the video clip was first shown, we are later shown footage of Safran on the phone or video conference with a someone from an American Christian Rock record label. Safran tells him that Jew Town are very big in the Australian Jewish underground music scene. The record label representative tells Safran that Jew Town needs to work on their dance synchronisation before the record label would sign them.
