- Annette Penhaligon
Dame Annette Lidgey Egerton (known by her former name of Penhaligon), DBE (born
9 February 1946 ) is a British politician.She was born to Owen Bennett Lidgey and Mabel Richards Lidgey, and was educated at
Truro Girls' School. In 1968, she married Liberal politicianDavid Penhaligon . He had recently taken over his father's job as sub-postmaster atChacewater ,Cornwall and after their marriage, Annette took over that role until 1976.When her husband was elected MP for Truro in 1974, Annette became his secretary and was as such until his untimely death in a
car accident in 1986. From 1987-94, she was a member of Carrick District Council and was knighted for her services to politics and public service in 1993. From 1992-2002, she was a non-executive director ofCornwall Independent Radio , and as such was a founding director ofPirate FM , and has been a member ofRestormel Borough Council since 2003.
