Robin Weston

Robin Weston

Robin Weston (born June 7, 1975) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm leg-break bowler. His first-class career started with a two-year stint at Durham, where he had played since his Second XI Championship debut in May 1992.

With three youth Tests under his belt before his nineteenth birthday, Weston would break into the Durham first team in 1995, where he played for two years, despite not averaging near to his potential. All was to change as he made his debut for Derbyshire, however, as he hit a half-century despite an innings defeat.

However, he left Derbyshire at the end of 1999 with the belief that any further action with the team would hamper his chances of playing for England, a chance which, as a senior player, never came to fruition. This was to stifle his game in 2000, with the lack of England play a concern to the still-young Peakite. However, he was to make something of a comeback in 2001, as he made three centuries and finished the season with an average in the 40s.

Towards the end of his career, Weston played for Middlesex, steering them towards 2002 Championship glory, and playing one game for them in the first division before moving on.

After an infuriating 2003 season, Robin hung up his gloves, perhaps unfortunate for any county which would have taken him on.

Weston's brother Philip had a somewhat longer career steering Worcestershire and Gloucestershire towards cricketing glory, and his father, Mike, played for Durham in 1972.
