- Steve Castle
Steve Castle (born
17 May 1966 inBarking ,London ) is a former English football defender who was assistant manager to Jimmy Quinn at English Conference side Cambridge United until recently. Castle started his career playing alongside Tony Cottee for Romford Royal in the Havering disctric as a child. He also once managed at St Albans City FC in the Rymans Premier League and Conference South, where he also played too. He was the man who took the Saints to the Conference South for the first time, beating Bedford Town 5-4 in an epic match. It should be noted however that this is not seen as any sort of reputable achievement as the leagues were changing format and this only required a top 14 finish. Castle led the side to 18th in league from which they managed to win the playoffs with the aforementioned 5-4 win over Bedford Town.Steve Castle returned to St Albans City towards the end of the 2007-08 season. After an inauspicious start, the Chairman opened his cheque book to the man from Oaklands allowing him to bring back several of the promotion winning side from Colin Lippiatt's reign. Although his popularity remains questionable, as does his attitude towards match officials and fans alike, he managed to steer the club to safety with the aid of Saints legend Paul Bastock, picking up 19 points from the last ten games.
