- Borgund, Møre og Romsdal
Borgund is a former municipality in
Møre og Romsdal county, Norway.It was created in 1837 as Borgund
formannskapsdistrikt . According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 3,754. In 1849 the districtSkodje was separated from Borgund to become a municipality of its own, and on1 January 1908 the same thing happened toGiske . After the last split Borgund had a population of 6,734. Parts of Skodje andHareid with 14 and 68 inhabitants respectively were moved to Borgund in 1916 and 1958.On
1 January 1965 a part of Borgund with 1,191 inhabitants was incorporated into Haram municipality, and on1 January 1968 the rest of Borgund was incorporated intoÅlesund . Prior to the merger Borgund had a population of 20,132. On1 January 1977 the island Sula, previously a part of Borgund, was separated from Ålesund to constitute a separate municipality.References
