October 23 ,1967 inPadiham ,Lancashire ) is an English former professional footballer who played as astriker .During his career he played for Hull City, Middlesbrough, Celtic, Barnsley, Huddersfield Town, home town club Burnley and Blackpool, before ending his career in non-league football with Stalybridge Celtic and then Colne.
He was a crowd favourite at
Boothferry Park and remained Hull City's record sale for 15 years when he left in1991 to join Middlesbrough for £750,000. He was also a big favourite atTurf Moor and is regarded as one of the best strikers to play for Burnley in recent years. Known as the 'Padiham Predator', Payton was bought to Burnley by then managerChris Waddle in a swap deal with striker Paul Barnes.External links
