:"For the defunct Argentine football tournament named Sweden Cup, please see Copa Suecia‎"Svenska Cupen (the "Swedish Cup") is the main Swedish football Cup. The winners qualify for the UEFA Cup.

Each year (since the new rules with fewer teams began), 98 teams compete, comprising the 14 teams from Allsvenskan (the All Swedish League - first level of Swedish football) and the 16 teams of Superettan (the Super Division 1 - second level of Swedish football) together with 68 teams from lower (district) series.

Compared to cups in many other countries, the Swedish Cup attracts considerably less public interest and even the cup final is rarely sold out. Consequently the Swedish Football Association has experimented with the format in order to raise the profile of the cup. The final has been staged at a neutral venue, at the national stadium as well as being played as a two-leg match. As of 2008, the city to host the final is being drawn as the winner in one of the semi finals.

A separate Svenska Cupen exists for women's association football.

Rounds and teams

* First round - 68 teams (level 3 and below)
* Second round - 64 teams (34 from first round + the Allsvenskan and the Superettan teams)
* Third round - 32 teams
* Fourth round - 16 teams
* Fifth round - quarter finals
* Sixth round - semi finals
* Seventh round - final

Winner qualifies for the qualification round of the UEFA Cup.

How district teams qualify

There are a number of districts in the Swedish football organization, and each of them receives a number of spots in the Swedish Cup, due to how many licensed players they have. For an example, Värmlands FF receives three spots and Västergötlands FF receives seven spots.
