The school was founded in 1948. Its buildings comprise two Victorian houses and an adjoining coach house with gardens, car parks and play areas in between. A suburb of south-west Sheffield, Broomhill is one of the city's more desirable residential areas, with the advantage of being close to both the City Centre and to the Peak District National Park.

In February 2005 the Headteacher was Mrs Sheila Williams, the Chairman of Governors was Mr Gordon Bridge and there were 113 girls at this selective school.
