Ronnie Pereira was the
lead guitar ist and singer of the 1970s bandRevolvers . He was popularly known as the MalaysianCarlos Santana for the way he emulated Santana in playing the guitar.Musical career
The Revolvers were renowned during the 1970s and Pereira, a founder member of the band, performed with them for 15 years until he retired at the age of 33. The band became famous because of its lively performances at the Glass Bubble in Jaya Puri Hotel, now known as Petaling Jaya Hilton. Among the songs they performed were cover versions of songs by Chicago, Deep Purple and Bread. The Revolvers released three albums.
"Those were the best days. People used to pay RM10 to watch us perform at Dewan Bahasa because pubs did not exist at that time," said band member Freddie Fernandez.
Death
Pereira died
October 13 ,2006 at 5:40 a.m. at the Klang General Hospital. He had been a diabetic for 11 years and died of an infected wound that had not healed for two months, his brother Jude said. A service was held at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes inKlang and he was buried at the Meru cemetery in Klang.He was survived by his wife Jane and daughter Leslie.
