Wegde

Wegde is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Wollo Zone, Wegde is bordered on the south by the Walaqa River which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the west by the Abay River which separates it from the Misraq Gojjam Zone, on the north by Debre Sina, and on the east by Kelala. The major town in Wegde is Mahdere Selam.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 137,374, of whom 70,359 were males and 67,015 were females; 2,886 or 2.10% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 12.4%. With an estimated area of 854.4 square kilometers, Wegde has an estimated population density of 160.8 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 173.56.
