Kelala (woreda)

Kelala is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Wollo Zone, Kelala is bordered on the south by the Semien Shewa Zone, on the southwest by the Walaqa River which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the west by Wegde, on the north by Legambo, on the northeast by Were Ilu, and on the east by Jama. Towns in Kelala include Kelala and Liguama.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 159,152, of whom 81,029 were males and 78,123 were females; 6,991 or 4.39% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 12.4%. With an estimated area of 1,767.19 square kilometers, Kelala has an estimated population density of 90.1 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 173.56.
