Alexander Medvedev

Alexander Medvedev (born 1955, August 14) is Deputy Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Russian energy company Gazprom, Director-General of Gazprom's export arm Gazexport and a member of the Coordination Committee of RosUkrEnergo.

Profile

Alexander Medvedev is a well-known figure in the international business world. As deputy CEO of Russia's Gazprom, he oversees the world's third-largest supplier of natural gas, trailing only oil-rich Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The company has a set a net worth goal of $1 trillion by 2015.

Lately, he has become famous in hockey circles, too.

Medvedev, 53, serves as president of the Continental Hockey League, Russia's new professional league that will start with 24 teams this season and grow to 30 teams in 2009-10. The CHL (referred to as the KHL in Russia) dreams of becoming a direct competitor of the NHL, and one might say it has started putting up a fight this summer.
