Wakonda (Ken Kesey)

Wakonda (Ken Kesey)

Wakonda is the name of the fictional logging community in the U.S. state of Oregon that is the setting of Ken Kesey's novel "Sometimes a Great Notion". In the film version of the book, various locations in Lincoln County, Oregon, including Kernville and other locations along the Siletz River, Yaquina Bay, Yaquina River, and the city of Newport were used to film scenes set in Wakonda and the surrounding area. There are a few real locations in Oregon named "Wokanda" or "Wocanda" as well, including the former community of Waconda in Marion County, and Wakonda Beach in Lincoln County. [http://nwdata.geol.pdx.edu/OR-GIS/PlaceNames/W.html]
