The Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service, Volunteer Florida, is a commission of the Executive Branch of
Florida state government. It was established in 1994 by theFlorida Legislature to administer grants under theNational and Community Service Trust Act of 1993. The Commission grants funds to FloridaAmeriCorps and National Service programs; encouragesvolunteerism for everyone from youths to seniors to people withDisabilities ; promotes volunteerism inEmergency management and preparedness; supports the Governor's initiatives through the creation of innovative volunteer programs; and helps to strengthen and expand Florida'sVolunteer center network.Volunteer Florida Commissioners drive the organization's mission and are involved actively in volunteer and service activities. They are a diverse, bipartisan group of citizens appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the
Florida Senate , who may serve two- to three-year terms and may be appointed for consecutive terms.ee also
