Vysokovsk

Vysokovsk

Vysokovsk ( _ru. Высоко́вск) is a town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located some 99 km northwest of Moscow. Population: 10,800 (2005 est.); 10,950 (2002 Census); 11,611 (1989 Census).

Vysokovsk was founded in 1879 due to the construction of a textile factory by the Vysokovskaya Manufactory Company ( _ru. Товарищество Высоковской мануфактуры). Two minor settlements servicing the factory—Vysokoye ( _ru. Высо́кое) and Novy Bazar ( _ru. Но́вый База́р)—grew into a small town, which would be renamed Vysokovsky ( _ru. Высоко́вский) in 1928. It was granted town status in 1940 and named Vysokovsk.
