Eastern Young Cattle Indicator - EYCI

The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator - or EYCI - is an indicator of general cattle markets in Australia.

The EYCI index is calculated based on a seven-day rolling average expressed in cents per kilogram carcase (or dressed) weight (¢/kg cwt); and is sourced from sale data from 26 saleyards in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. It is produced daily by MLA's National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS); and includes

* vealer
* yearling
* heifers
* steers

Only cattle meeting the following criteria are included
* grade score C2 or C3,
* 200kg+ liveweight

Includes cattle purchased for
* slaughter,
* restocking or
* lotfeeding;

It is also used as the base for the MLA/SFE [http://www.mla.com.au Meat & Livestock Australia] /Sydney futures exchange Cattle Futures contract.
