Ginegar ( _he. גניגר), also Ganigar, is a kibbutz in northern Israel. Located near Migdal HaEmek, it falls under the jurisdiction of Jezreel Valley Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 481.

History

The kibbutz was established in 1922 on the lands of the Lower Galilee on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. The kibbutz founders, working at moshavim in the area at the time, came in the second and third Aliyahs. They joined together in 1920 to establish Degania Gimel—now known as Beit Zera. They arrived at the Ginegar Estate—originally named "Nginagar"—due to a lack of land in their mother settlement.

Economy

Next to the kibbutz is a large plastics factory, also named Ginegar. The factory produces mainly plastic products for agriculture. Nowadays, Ginegar still accepts volunteers, who can stay on the kibbutz and live with the kibbutzniks for a couple of months in exchange for labour.
