- Porta Coeli (Moravia)
Porta Coeli is a twelfth-century convent and church in
Tišnov ,Moravia ,Czech Republic , after which theasteroid 3276 Porta Coeli is named. Situated in the valley of theSvratka , thisCistercian convent was founded in 1233 byConstance of Hungary , widow ofKing Otakar I .The church, consecrated in
1239 , has three aisles, atransept and a rather long sanctuary ending in a five-sidedapse . Despite the austerity of the Cistercian rule, the western façade has a portal reminiscent of French cathedrals. It is unique in the Czech Republic. The interior contains valuableBaroque furnishings from after1764 ; on the high altar there is a painting byF. A. Maulbertsch , sculpture byAndreas Schweigl , and other paintings by the Jesuit artistIgnaz Raab . The cloister walk is worthy of note because of its early Gothic vaulting, its capitals, figurative and decorative carvings and the chapter house, built between 1260 and1270 .External links
