(1999)"EV3" is the third
studio album byEn Vogue . Originally called "Friendship" It was their first project that wasn't fully produced by Thomas McElroy & Denzil Foster, the then quartet called on hitmakers Babyface,David Foster ,Diane Warren , and Ivan Matias among others to provide the group with a new modern sound."EV3" was the last album recorded with
Dawn Robinson who decided to leave the group for a solo career. Her abrupt departure from En Vogue forced the remaining trio to re-record several of Dawn's original lead vocals, however not every track was re-recorded with Dawn's leads remaining intact on several tracks and her background vocals still appear on every song with the only exception being "Does Anybody Hear Me"Track listing
Trivia
When
Dawn Robinson decided to leave before the project was completed, the remaining trio re-recorded several of her lead vocals.*""Whatever"Cindy Herron replaced Dawn after Terry's lead on the second verse.Terry Ellis replaced Dawn's "Whatever" adlibs at the end of the song. Some remixes of the song still either have Dawn's full original lead & adlibs or just her adlibs instead of the re-recorded vocals.
*""Right Direction"Maxine Jones replaced Dawn's lead & adlibs after Cindy sings the bridge.
*""Too Gone, Too Long"Terry Ellis replaced Dawn on all adlibs after Maxine sings the bridge, However on the album version some of Dawn's adlibs still remain towards the very end of the song, The reason for this is unknown, they were edited out of the radio version when the song was released as a single.
*""You're All I Need"Originally all of the leads on this song were sung by Dawn, replaced by Cindy Herron.
Dawn Robinson 's lead vocals still appear on all of the Thomas McElroy & Denzil Foster produced songs, with the only exceptions being "Eyes Of A Child" (Her background Vocals still remain) & "Does Anybody Hear Me" which Dawn does not vocal on at all.Chart success
*The album was certified platinum by the RIAA. It sold over four million copies worldwide.
