Shen Jiaben

Shen Jiaben

Shen Jiaben (沈家本, 1840-1913). Late Qing Chinese scholar and jurist from Wuxing 吳興 in Zhejiang province (modern Huzhou city 湖州). Shen was in charge of the 1905 revision of the Qing Code, abolishing several cruel punishments such as "slow slicing" (lingchi).
