International Stakes

International Stakes

The International Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in the United Kingdom open to thoroughbreds which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1 mile 2 furlongs and 88 yards (2,092 metres) at York Racecourse, and it takes place annually during the Ebor Festival meeting in August.

It was first run in 1972 and was known until 1985 as the Benson & Hedges Gold Cup. Since 1989 the race has been sponsored by Juddmonte Farms, the breeding operation of Khalid Abdullah. The race is now commonly referred to as the Juddmonte International.

The 2008 running was transferred to the July Course at Newmarket, having been cancelled at York due to a waterlogged track.

Winners

note label|1988|1|1 Persian Heights finished first in 1988 but was relegated to third place following a Stewards' Inquiry.
