Prosper-Edmond Lessard (born:
February 3 ,1873 died:April 11 ,1931 ) was a former member of theLegislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA) and a former Canadian Senator.Lessard was born in 1873 in Cranbourne,
Quebec and left seeking his fortune in the 1898Klondike Gold Rush . He stopped inEdmonton on his way there, and became a leading citizen in theFranco-Albertan community.In the 1909 Alberta general election, Prosper was Acclaimed as the
Alberta Liberal Party MLA for the newPakan electoral district. After serving 1 term Pakan was abolished and he became the MLA for St. Paul in the 1913 Alberta general election. He was re-elected again for a third term in 1917 and defeated byJoseph Joly from theUnited Farmers of Alberta in the 1921 Alberta general election.In 1925 he was appointed to the
Canadian Senate and served until his death in 1931. His senate division was St. Paul where he served his years as an MLA. His unique downtown Edmonton area home has been declared a heritage site.External links
