- Lincoln Knolls
Lincoln Knolls is a neighborhood within
Youngstown, Ohio , on the city's east side. The land became part of the city in 1928, when it was acquired from neighboring Coitsville. Initially agricultural land, it became Youngstown's attempt to create a post-war suburban-style development in the 1950s. Along with homes, suburban-style shopping options were also created, with the Lincoln Knolls Plaza
strip mall . The plaza was successful in its early years, but faltered in the 1980s, with the rise of indoorshopping malls . Today, the plaza is highlighted by a grocery store, several small locally owned retail businesses, drug stores and mom and pop style restaurants.Lincoln Knolls has done surprisingly well, given its ability to adapt during changing times and economic declined. Although dismissed by some critics as unsafe the Lincoln Knolls area remains a neat, quiet and well maintained neighborhood with many of its residents being home owners. It is one of the more densely populated parts of the city, and some real estate development has occurred there in recent years.
