issn =|"GamesMaster" is a monthly multi-format
computer and video game magazine published byFuture Publishing in theUnited Kingdom . The magazine was launched in January 1993, priced at £3.50, to complement the television show of the same name. While the show has since ceased broadcasting, the magazine has carried on. GamesMaster is the biggest selling multi-format video games magazine in the United Kingdom, even outselling its critically acclaimed sister publication Edge [" [http://www.futureplc.com/future/news/tradenews_story.jsp?type=news&ref=2071&year=2006&month=08 Magazine ABCs: Encouraging next-generation signs for Future’s games portfolio] " —Future Publishing .17 August ,2006 .] . Issues of the magazine regularly include a game cheats handbook. There have been 195 issues published as of February 2008. (196 - 19/02/08)The magazine publishes a number of reviews and previews of games; however this is only half of the magazine as it includes posters, letters from the public and monthly competitions.The popularity of the magazine has grown and now game producers even seek to achieve the elusive GamesMaster “Gold Award” for a reference on their package. The Gold Award is awarded to games that score 90% or higher.
There have been some public concerns (raised in a "Redeye" column in "Edge" in 2003 for example) that GamesMaster’s coverage of adult rated games may increase the likelihood that an underage child will buy the video game. Gamesmaster countered that it is up to parents to make sure that they don’t buy games unsuitable for their children.Fact|date=August 2008 The magazine is currently priced at £3.99.
GM Philippines
The Philippine publishing house
Summit Media started a local edition in 2003. Each issue was priced at PHP 120 (around USD 2.95). The edition quickly gained popularity with the local community because of its affordable price and relevance to their preferences.GamesMaster Philippines ceased publication in September 2006 due to a corporate
restructuring . The final issue's cover had the words "GAME OVER" written in the old Nintendo font used in Famicom games. An online commentary of the magazine's demise, and its effects, has been published recently. [http://sharkey360.blogspot.com/search?q=Gamemaster]References
