November 19 ,1944 inCastrop-Rauxel ,Germany ) is a former German football player.Defender Fichtel is, to date, the oldest player ever played in a Bundesliga game at the age of 43 years and 183 days on May 21, 1988 (
Schalke 04 -Werder Bremen 1-4). He retired in consequence ofSchalke 04 's relegation from the best German division with this appearance, in total he played 552 games (14 goals) in the Bundesliga. In addition, he further played 42 times in the 2nd Bundesliga in one of his four years withSV Werder Bremen .A trained mineworker, Fichtel won 23 caps in four years with West Germany in between 1967 and 1971, scoring one goal against Scotland in 1969. He was part of the West German squad at the
1970 FIFA World Cup . His involvement in the match fixing "Bundesligaskandal" in 1970–1971 abruptly ended his international career.
