Notable_instruments = The Heroine Sheiks is aMinneapolis basedNoise Rock band. It began in 1999 as a collaboration ofShannon Selberg (ex-The Cows ) andNorman Westberg (ex-Swans ,Foetus ) andJohn Fell (ex-China Shop ,Kid Congo Powers ) along with a changing group of musicians including bass playerEric Eble (Reid Paley Trio,Kings County Queens ,Cordero , among others). Selberg emerged as a major song writer in the complete history of the band whose sound was darker and more sinister than his previous work in The Cows. With multiple references to the writerLouis-Ferdinand Céline , the band explored a thematic quality of black comedy. Many of the more successful bands from New York in the last ten years record sales wise got started opening for Heroine Sheiks. Bands likeYeah Yeah Yeahs ,Fiery Furnaces ,Interpol , andGogol Bordello ,all played opening slots for the Heroine Sheiks, and went on to sell far more records. In 2008, after being based in the Williamsburg section of
Brooklyn , the group moved to Minneapolis, released a limited edition CD "Journey to the End of the Knife", and toured with a new line-up. [cite web
