Howard Zehr (born
2 July 1944 ) is Professor ofSociology andRestorative Justice atEastern Mennonite University inHarrisonburg, Virginia where he also serves as co-director of the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding. Zehr previously served 19 years as director ofMennonite Central Committee’s Office onCrime andJustice .He is considered a pioneer in the field of restorative justice, a branch ofcriminal justice that focuses on repairing harm rather than establishing deterrence.
