History

The East village was traditionally a series of warehouses and vacant lots. It wasn't until the 1990s that it became a community for artists and social services. Residential aspects of the East Village became a reality in 2005,cite web|url=http://www.92101urbanliving.com/blog/downtown-san-diego-real-estate/220/220/|title=The new face of East Village San Diego|publisher=Downtown San Diego Living|accessdate=2008-10-01] after Petco Park was established.

Urban renewal

The East Village was traditionally known for its dive-bars, eclectic dwellers of artists, and drug addicts. Beginning with the addition of PETCO Park, it is now known as "fiercely fashionable", with the visitors forgoing the beaches of San Diego, in search of a trendy and experimental vibe.
