Fred Grgurev

Fred Grgurev

Fred Grgurev (born September 14 1951, Zadar, Croatia in what was then Yugoslavia) is a former Major Indoor Soccer League star. He also earned 14 caps for the (outdoor) United States football team, scoring one goal.

Grgurev, playing for the Philadelphia Fever, New York Arrows, New Jersey Rockets, Memphis Americans, Las Vegas Americans, Pittsburgh Spirit, and New York Express, was the original MISL's ninth all-time point scorer with 544. He was the league's seventh all-time goal scorer with 331. As a member of the Fever, Grgurev was Scoring Champion as well as Pass Master ("ie." assists leader) in the league's inaugural season, 1978-79. It would be however his only scoring title as all-time leaguer scoring Steve Zungul won 6 of the next 7 seasons'.

Grgurev earned his 14 caps between 1973 and '76. He scored against Canada in a friendly played in Windsor on May 8, 1973, which the Americans won 2-0.

Grgurev played outdoors in the North American Soccer League in 1978 for the New York Cosmos and in 1979 and '80 for the Rochester Lancers.
