The spatulasnout cat shark, "Apristurus platyrhynchus", is a cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae found in the western Pacific from the Philippines, East and South China seas, northward to Suruga Bay, Japan, between latitudes 35° N and 1° N. Its length is up to 80 cm.

The poorly-known spatulasnout cat shark has a very short abdomen, with an interspace between the pectoral and pelvic fin base shorter than 3/5 of the anal fin base length. The pectoral fin tip reaches beyond the midpoint between the pectoral and pelvic fins. The first dorsal fin is smaller in area than the second. The anal fin is low with a long base.

Coloration is black, brown or grey, without conspicuous markings on fins.

The spatulasnout cat shark is oviparous, probably one egg per oviduct laid at a time. The egg capsule is very slender, without tendrils, and with a conical posterior end.
