"Apristurus pinguis", is a cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae found only in deep water in the East China Sea. Its length is up to 56 cm.

"Apristurus pinguis" has a stout body, with the snout length in front of mouth about 1.2 times the distance between the nostrils. There is a long anal fin, with the rear tip nearly reaching the origin of the lower caudal lobe. This species is similar to the Japanese catshark, "Apristurus japonicus", but differs in having the distance between orbits about the length of the snout in front of the mouth, the length of the nostril about half the distance between the nostrils, and the upper and lower labials about equal in length.

Reproduction is oviparous.
