SCFX

SCFX is the student special effects organization of the University of Southern California.

The organization holds meetings with speakers from industry, takes tours of area special effects houses, provides tutorials for special effects creation, assists with matching student special effects artists to student film projects, provides students with opportunities for career placement, and occasionally sponsors work on effects-based short films, including "The Gamers".

Membership is open to students of any field of study, but the group attracts primarily students of film and engineering.

The organization was the first student group for special effects, and has helped establish similar groups at UCLA, the Savannah College of Art and Design, and other schools. It was originally established in the mid-1980s, but by 2000 had gone dormant before re-emerging as an active group that year.

SCFX's main advisor since the beginning has been Dr. Richard Weinberg.
