The Metropolitana di Genova is a light metro consisting of a single line that connects the center of Genoa with the suburb of Rivarolo, to the north-west of the city centre. The service is currently managed by Azienda Mobilità e Trasporti, which provides public transport for the City of Genoa, Italy.

It is a 5 km-long standard gauge (1435 mm) double line and is electrified at 750 volts DC. It has a direct connection with the underground suburban station under Trenitalia's mainline railway station, "Principe". It was opened between the stations of "Brin" and "Dinegro" in June 1990 for the World Cup of Football and extended to Principe in 1992, "San Giorgio-Caricamento" in 2003 and "De Ferrari" in 2005.

Stations

The following stations have been completed:

*Brin-Certosa
*Dinegro
*Principe
*Darsena
*San Giorgio-Caricamento
*Sant'Agostino-Sarzano
*De Ferrari

New works

The line is currently being extended to the east to "Brignole" (Genoa's other mainline railway station, at the eastern end of the city centre) with an intermediate stop in the Piazza Corvetto-Acquasola. This is expected to be completed in 2011 for Brignole station, some years later for the intermediate stop.

In addition, it is planned to extend the line to Val Polcevera from Brin to Canepari and from Brignole with branches to the San Martino Hospital and the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.

uburban services
