Rahman is a popular film actor in the Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu film Industries.Six Feet Tall Rahman has acted in more than 100 films in Malayalam, Tamil & Telugu and was a superstar in the 1980s. Rahman has a lot of fans all over South India. There are several fans associations in the name of this actor in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. He acted in the films of great directors like Padmarajan, Bharathan, K. Balachander, Priyadarshan and acted along with great artists like Sivaji Ganeshan, Prem Nazir, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Madhu, MG Soman, Sukumaran, KP Ummar, Satyaraj, Vijayakanth & Prabhu. The Mammootty, Mohanlal, Rahman team acted together in about seven films, and was very successful.

Film career

After that he acted in the super hit films like Ithiri poove chuvanna poove, Parannu parannu parannu, Thammil Thammil,Kaanamarayuthu, Koodumthedi, Kariyilakkattu pole, Adiyozhukkukal, Vartha, Pumukhapadiyil Ninneyum Kathu,Katha Ethuvare, Evide thudgannu,Eeran Sandhya,Ente Nathante Nimmi,Kandu Kandarinju,Upaharam,Chilambu,Vennameettiya Vilangukal,Mazhavilkoodaram etc. 2008 is the silver jubilee year (25 years as actor) of Rahman.Rahman's comeback film in Malayalam was the second hero role in the film "Black'. Mammootty was the hero. In the films like "Rajamanikyam", "Mahasamudram","Bhargavacharitham Moonam Khandam"he did second hero roles. He was the hero in the films like "Abraham and Lincoln" and "Nanma"along with Kalabhavan Mani, . He also acted in director Kamal's film "Goal" and Ranjith's Mohanlal film Rock 'n' Roll. In Malayalam after Koodevede, "Rajamanikiyam "(2005) was the second film Rahman dubbed in his own voice.

Films to come

After a long gap Rahman is acting as a Hero in three new malayalam films. The first one "Manchadikkuru" (English titled Lucky Red seeds) produced by NFDC and directed by Anjali Menon completed shooting. Rahman's big budget malayalam movie named Musafir, directed by Pramod Pappan started shooting in the in locations like London, Dubai and Cyprus. Mamta is his heroine in this film. A musical thriller, Musafir is scheduled to release in the month of December.Rahman will join the sets of Viji Thamby's new film 'Suspense' after Musafir. This film also is a big budget film shooting in Germany and Switzerland. He is also acting in the Multi-starrer movie produced by AMMA.Another malayalam film announced with Rahman as the hero is Sourayudham. Documentary director Manu’s movie 'Sourayoodham' will feature Rahman in the lead with another newcomer Nandha, as the heroine. Film is understood to start shooting in November.

Tamil, Telugu

Rahman's first Tamil film was "Nileve Malare" which was released in 1986 and the director of the film was S.A. Chanderashekhar,(Tamil actor Viay's father) and the film was a big success. After that he acted in the films like Kanne Kannemuthe, Vasantharagam, Anpulla Appa (with Shivaji Ganeshan). In 1989, after the super hits of Puthu Puthu Arthangal, Puriyatha Puthir, Nee Pathi Naan Pathi he shifted completely to Tamil and Telugu. "Bharath Band" is one of his big hits in Telugu. "Rasaleela" was the first Telugu movie Rahman acted which was released in 1986. In 1987 January Rahman moved to Bangalore(Jaya Nagar 9th block) from Kozhikode. In 1990 Rahman moved from Bangalore to Chennai. Rahman performed superbly in the Tamil films "Thoothukudi" and "Ram" which was released in 2006 and 2005. Tamil film "Ethiri"(2004) was the first film Rahman dubbed in his own voice. He was the villain in the big hit Tamil film Billa, released in December, 2007.In 2005 after a long gap in Telugu Rahman acted in Telugu film named "Dhariyam, but it was a flop in the box office. The Telugu version of Malayalam film Abraham Lincoln released on September 15, all over Andhra Pradesh and got good response. Rahman's latest Telugu film was Aalayam, directed by superhit director Muthyala Subbayya. The film was a big success among family audience in Andhra Pradesh.Rahman's latest Tamil film is Balam directed by Muralikrishna. In this film Suhasini, his first heroine in the film Koodevide is also acting with him after a gap of 25 years.He is now acting in the Tamil film Vamanan directed by Ahmed who has worked as assistant to director Kathir.

Awards

Rahman got the state award for best supporting actor for his performance in the very first film Koodevide. Later he got several awards including Filmfare and critics Awards. Rahman got the Award for Trendsetter in the history of Malayalam cinema's 78 years at the Etisalat Everest Film awards held in Dubai in 2007. The public voted Rahman for this Award from the nominations including Kamal Hassan, Sreedevi, Manju Warrier and Nadiya Moithu.
