Playing career
Eddie Baily initially joined Tottenham as an amateur in 1942 at the age of 17. A period of
National Service at the end of theSecond World War interrupted his playing career but he returned to Tottenham in 1947 playing his first game, still as an amateur, on January 19 that year againstWest Bromwich Albion F.C. . His footballing skills flourished under new managerArthur Rowe who was developing hispush and run side which at the time was challenging for promotion to theFootball League First Division . Brazil . He went on to play in nine International games between 1950 and 1952, scoring five goals. In January 14 1956 he was transferred to Port Vale (26 games and 8 goals) and in October than year moved to Nottingham Forest ( 68 games and 14 goals) followed by a spell from 1958 at Leyton Orient (29 games and 3 goals). Coaching career
In 1963 he returned to Tottenham to became the assistant manager under Bill Nicholson and remained with him during the following ten years until he relinquished the manager’s role.
He was also a P.E. teacher at Bishop Stopford's School,
Enfield before joiningWest Ham United F.C. as a scout.He had a
testimonial match in 1993 between Spurs andEnfield F.C. on the day thatTerry Venables wassacked as manager of Spurs and a large crowd turned up in order to protest against the sacking.References
