Valchitran

Valchitran is a village in Pleven Province, central northern Bulgaria. Established by Thracians in 458, it is home of the one of the biggest Thracian treasures in Bulgariamdash the Valchitran treasuremdash found by peasants working in their garden.

Valchitran has Nikita Khrushchev as an honorary citizen. Khrushchev was on his way to Sofia in a plane, when the plane experienced technical difficulties and had to land in Kamenetz, a small town nearby which had a military airfield. Khrushchev had to pass through Valchitran in order to get to Sofia.

The current mayor of Valchitran is Bogomil Petrov. Today Valchitran is mainly a bird breeding cooperative.
