Janez Zalaznik

Janez Zalaznik, Slovenian artist, (born 1963)

Janez Zalaznik was born in Slovenia in 1963 and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. He is working mainly in acrylics on canvas, but also in the field of digital art. In his paintings he is combining post-cubist two-dimensional structure with unexpected elements painted in three-dimensional "trompe l'oeil" technique. Together with allusive and in most cases very wit titles, this eclectic blend in vivid colours place Zalaznik among postmodern artists.

Zalaznik is also working in the field of graphic design (book covers, posters and magazine layouts), giving art lessons and writing on art. He has published two books on art history:"The Good, The Ugly and the Right Ones - Colur and structure in painting from gothic until today" (2006)and"Once upon a time in XX. century - One on one about modern art" (2007)
