Kattankudy

Kattankudy is a city in Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, notable for being one of the most densely populated cities in South Asia and the most densely populated Muslim region in the World. It was the site of the Kattankudi mosque massacre of 1990.

Kattankudi is a Muslim-majority city, famous for its culture and for business. The population of the town is about 60,000. A tale tells that it was made by a group of people which came from the middle east named 'Kahthaan'.they have the history before over centuries.the traditions and cultural events are mostly famoused in this area. The people of Kattankudy has great administrative body named Federation< which includes all civil institution representatives as a members and administrating and guiding the social relations peacefully.

Kattankudy has a long beach and most of the people are in fishing.most of Kattankudy peoples tradinal income source is business, since earlier centuries they have a huge amount of paddyfields in the Paduwankarai, Poonochimunai, Manmunai, Nochimunai and other all border areas where the tamil and muslim people were lived. after the bad arrival of war in last two decades in srilanka the most areas where the tamil people situated are surrounded by tamil rebellian movements like ltte and the muslims who were live in their land were displaced under rebellions ethnic cleansing.after the restriction and shooting on the people who owned the land in their areas are unable to go into their own lands to do their business and fields .however the people of kattankudy have developed their city as a great market evironment and they are improving their day to day life as a modern and techically.

now also they are facing a lot of disturbs from tamil rebellions like ltte and paramilitareis of government.

the tradition and cultural events of this people are very interesting and spiritful.they have a traditions and cultures as their own, which is a best chance to live individuallywith pluralism with the other socials.
